Three Art Shows in Havana November 2018: Don’t Miss Out! 3 November, 2018

Art Shows in Havana November 2018

The art scene in Havana is very lively this month. Here are our recommendation for the 3 art shows in Havana November 2018:

1. La Imagen sin límites. Exposición Antológica de Fotografía Cubana (The Image without limits. Anthological Exhibition of Cuban Photography)

Through November 26
National Museum of Fine Arts – Cuban Art Building 3rd Floor
Trocadero between Zulueta y Monserrate. Old Havana.
Curated by Rafael Acosta de Arriba

This Cuban photography exhibit features fifty artists who worked in Cuba from 1840 until now; among them names like, Alberto Korda, Osvaldo Salas, José Manuel Fors, Martha María Pérez, René Peña, Juan Carlos Alom, Alejandro González, and Rodney Batista to mention some. This exhibition is the first in thirty-five years to systematically visualize the history of Cuban photography.

2. “¿Hasta Cuando las vacaciones?” (How long will the vacations last?)

José Eligio Tonel. Untitled. (Set up. Take down. Set up. Repeat) at How Long are Vacations Going to Last? exhibition, Arsenal Habana gallery.

Through November 10

Arsenal Habana

Cárdenas 51 between Corrales y Apodaca. Old Havana

Curated by Satchie Hernandez with ARTempoCuba contributors Liatna Rodriguez and Raquel Carrera

Arsenal Habana is an independent art gallery located in Old Havana. The exhibition of internationally acclaimed Cuban artists who do not presently live and work on the island questions the creative processes of contemporary art. The show features José Bedia, Consuelo Castañeda, Odey Curbelo, Gustavo Pérez Monzón, Juan Miguel Pozo, Antonio Eligio Tonel and Irving Vera, This is a huge opportunity to see all these major Cuban artists.

3. “Pintar a Contratiempo”
* a contratiempo is a musical term that means in the inverse rhythm to normal tempo with which it marks the beat.

Through November 24
Centro Hispanoamericano de Cultura
Malecón 17 between Prado y Cárcel. Old Havana
Curated by Iván de la Nuez

The exhibition features a deluxe roster of prestigious young Cuban painters including Michel Pérez Pollo, Juan Miguel Pozo, and Alejandro Campins. The show is a discussion of the cosmovision of three young painters who represent an up-and-coming generation. This is for sure a unique exhibition about how the gesture of oil on canvas can find the essence of a pictorial process. Must see!
