In addition to maintaining his prolific artistic production since 1989 René has been a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts of Cuba (ISA), which he considers as an equal facet of his work, taking pride in having helped train many young Cuban artists.
René Francisco was born in 1960. He has received the UNESCO Prize (with Gallery DUPP), Seventh Biennial of Havana, Havana, Cuba Award in 2000; a Honorary Doctorate of San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, USA in 2001; and the Cuban National Prize of Fine Art, Havana, Cuba in 2014. He has been Artist in Residence at Schloss Wiepersdorf, Germany in 2003; Cuban Artists Found, NY. USA in 2004; and Mattress Factory Pittsburgh, USA in 2004. His works are part of the collections of the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), Miami, FL; The Daros Latinamerica Collection – Daros Museum, Zurich, Switzerland; Nina Menocal Collection, Mexico City, Mexico; Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China, among others.
