Havana Biennial 2019 List of artists revealed! 14 March, 2019

Havana Biennial 2019 knocking at the door: List of artists revealed!

The 13th Havana Biennial is finally in the next page of our monthly calendars! ARTempoCuba team is very excited to finally share more accurate info on the participating artists and events. As we mentioned in our previous post, 166 international artists from more than 50 countries will come to Havana and join 69 Cuban artists for this great event opening on April 12th.
The main section of the Biennial will include 83 artists (17 Cubans and 66 foreigners) which have been selected by the curatorial team in connection to the theme of this edition: La construcción de lo possible (Construction of the Possible). According to the statement released by the Wifredo Lam Center, this concept intends to present artworks that assume artistic creation “as a living event or experience in progress…… beyond the traditional notion of authorship and the acknowledgment of diversity”. The curators also state that the concept includes the interest in the artistic creation aimed at proposing “future models of understanding and solidarity among human beings.” This group of artists will present their work in Cultural Institutions that belong to the Visual Arts Council (Consejo de las Artes Plásticas), spaces that are part of the Office of the City Historian (Oficina del Historiador), the Guanabacoa Museum, the Cuban Pavilion (Pabellón Cuba) among other spaces.
Concerning the selection of Cuban artists, we can say that it is a heterogeneous roster including artists from different generations, styles, and media.
Besides this main group of exhibitors, the Biennial also comprises other exhibitions and projects as part of their official program such as Detrás del Muro (Behind the Wall), Corredor Cultural de Línea (Línea Street Cultural Corridor) among others. In an upcoming post, we will list all these projects and will comment on each of them.
